Abstract

To improve the text input performance on handheld devices, an onscreen keyboard that
offers an easier and faster method of entering text with a pen or a finger, was developed. It has an adaptive
predictive ability according to personal word usage of the user, context and syntax rules. To facilitate visual
searching, frequently used characters are presented to the user in different key sizes and color contrasts
according to their related probabilities. User testing has indicated that the developed keyboard could improve
the user performance better than on-screen Qwerty keyboard.
